An Anarchist Theme Park
Arc et Senans, France, 2012
'Libertatia: An Anarchist Theme Park' takes a radical approach to the experience of French revolutionary history, combining obsessive reconstruction of architectural spaces and events with the tropes of fantasy urban design to create a place which is at once a living museum, a holiday park, and an ideological experiment. The park plays out and explores the contradiction between revolutionary sentiment and formalist planning by re-creating historical events as attractions and programmatic elements within a contrived masterplan. The attractions question the attribution of identity and monumentality in architectural history, turning the spaces inside out to celebrate what's lasting about them.
