This project explores the potential use of irregular ‘non-place’ sites as storage ‘blisters’ on the periphery of the city. In this case, a peculiar urban island becomes the site of new archives for the Belgian national railway company NMBS. As well as investigating means of protecting the collection and considering the function of isolation, the project considers the visitor’s experience as through a series of enclosures that mediate ‘negative’ environmental conditions at different levels to mitigate or exploit physical sensation.
